Opinel No. 8VRI "Tradition Carbon" Knife
This is the quintessential French knife, the No. 8 Carbon, which originated in Joseph Opinel's workshop in the 1890s. Since then, it has become a classic worldwide.
The Opinel's traditional blade is called a Yatagan blade (after Turkish swords) with its upturned point, ensuring exceptional strength.
XC90 Carbon Blade: This is a non-alloy steel with a high carbon content. After heat treatment, it achieves excellent hardness, guaranteeing a perfect edge retention, high wear resistance, and easy resharpening.
Beechwood handle, sourced from French forests because of its hardness and durability. The handle is varnished to prevent soiling and provide better protection against moisture.
Stainless steel Virobloc safety ring.
Important: Carbon steel blades are very susceptible to corrosion. They must be dried after each use and greased regularly.
Blade: 8 cm
Handle: 11cm
Weight: 28 g
*The Virobloc safety ring, invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, is fitted to all closing knives from N°06 onwards.
The Virobloc is cut out of stainless steel and is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part.
In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is also possible to lock the blade in the closed position for transport safety.
