Laguiole knife from Fontenille Pataud Gilles® series ‘SPORT’ range
Fontenille Pataud is one of a group of cutlers from the Thiers area who have come together to perpetuate their mastery and expertise through a knife bearing the name of their town:
Thiers, the capital of French cutlery for over 6 centuries, and who have built the reputation of French knives by respecting the 3 key ideas: Territoriality, Quality, Morality.
Robert Beillonnet designed the first knife for Fontenille Pataud in 2003. To this day, the Laguiole Sport remains the market benchmark for ‘large’ Laguioles measuring at least 13 cm.
While retaining the traditional forged bee shape of the Laguiole knife, a precision mechanism allows the blade to be locked securely when open.
A matt polished blade with notch (at the end of the handle) in 14C28N steel (hardness 58-59HRC). Laguiole Fontenille Pataud engraved on the blade.
Matt bolster.
13 cm handle in ironwood and blue epoxy resin. Traditionally forged bee (not welded), each spring is freehand guilloched. Traditional shepherd's cross.
The ironwood can show tiger mottling and golden highlights.
A precision mechanism locks the blade securely when it is open.
A solid, fixed 100C6 steel stop allows the blade to be slammed down without damaging the cutting edge.
Rear-pump blade lock-back
