Au Sabot folding knife "LE PRADEL", a historic knife from the Auvergne region
Pradel knives take their name from Etienne Pradel, a French cutler, who gave birth to this iconic model. The history of the Pradel knife is closely linked to the French cutlery tradition, particularly rooted in Thiers, the world capital of cutlery.
Over the decades, the Pradel knife has gained popularity, crossing regional borders to become a symbol of French cutlery.
Inspired by English knives from the Sheffield region, this model was also called "English style", "London" or "sailor". It was sold all along the French west coast, from Normandy to Brittany, as far as Bordeaux. Used by sailors and farmers alike, this knife was very versatile.
XC 75 carbon steel blade, with a flat notch mechanism and notch in the blade for easier opening. Excellent cutting but it will require specific maintenance.
Steel bolster.
10.5 cm AC horn handle.
(A XC75 carbon steel blade has good edge retention. It takes on a gray tint with use, this is natural oxidation but it is essential to maintain it. To preserve the blade from oxidation, and after each use, wipe the blade of your knife with a damp sponge and dishwashing liquid. Dry it immediately with a dry cloth.)
Excellent cutting but requires specific maintenance (a drop of oil in the closed position at the axis. clean the inside of the knife. For wooden handles, never put in the dishwasher, store in a dry place at room temperature). Plexi or cellulose acetate handles are less sensitive to humidity and water. You can clean your entire knife with a damp cloth and then wipe it with a dry cloth.
Made in France by the cutlery "Au Sabot" in Thiers.
