Windmühlenmesser Ibex 120 Series Knife – Carbon Steel and Smoked Oak
The Windmühlenmesser IBEX 120 is the extra-large (XL) model in the outdoor range from the German manufacturer Robert Herder. Its blade profile is inspired by a historical design originally created for the Hadhramaut region of southern Arabia. The locking mechanism traditional yet significantly improved holds the blade firmly in place whether open or closed.
Features a smooth, bright blade made of X50CrMoV15 (or 1.4116) stainless steel these are simply two different designations for the same material with a hardness of approximately 57 HRC. It is a rust-resistant, low-maintenance steel. The blade features a "sheep's foot" profile and a lock-back mechanism that secures the blade in the open position; it can also be opened using a thumb stud.
The IBEX blade boasts stable geometry thanks to its convex grind. It starts with a thickness of 2.5 mm; following grinding and polishing (finishing), the blade spine tapers while the edge receives its final sharpening, optimized for exceptional durability and cutting performance.
Smoked oak handle. Smoked oak is produced through a specific heat treatment that gives it a dark color resembling ebony, while also increasing its resistance to moisture.
To close the knife, pull the small metal ring on the back; this releases the lock in stages, allowing the blade to close gently without snapping shut on your fingers.
