Windmühlenmesser Ibex 120 Carbon & Black Walnut Knife
The Windmühlenmesser IBEX 120 is the extra-large (XL) model in the outdoor range from the German manufacturer Robert Herder. Its blade profile is inspired by a historical design originally created for the Hadhramaut region of southern Arabia. The traditional yet significantly improved locking mechanism holds the blade firmly in place, whether open or closed.
It features a premium, plain-edge blade made of 102Cr6 carbon steel (58-59 HRC hardness), offering razor-sharp performance and excellent edge retention. The blade features a "sheep's foot" profile and a lock-back mechanism that secures it in the open position; it can also be opened using a thumb stud.
The IBEX blade boasts structural stability thanks to its convex grind. It starts with a thickness of 2.5 mm; following the grinding and polishing (finishing) process, the spine tapers while the edge receives its final sharpening, optimized for exceptional durability and cutting performance.
The carbon steel blade requires maintenance to prevent oxidation and the development of a grey patina; it should be wiped dry after every use.
The black walnut handle offers a warm, textured, matte feel, ensuring a secure and ergonomic grip even with wet hands. It features a dark brown color with relatively straight grain patterns.
To close the knife, pull the small metal ring on the back; this releases the lock in stages, allowing the blade to close gently without snapping shut on your fingers.
