Boker 1969 Mach-1 Damascus Collection Pocket Knife by Tommaso Rumici
Inspired by the Second World War fighter plane, the P-51 Mustang, Ford developed its own Mustang in the early 1960s and brought it to market in April 1964. The first-generation 1969 Mach-1 was only available as a fastback and featured a number of visual and performance differences from the standard model: sports suspension, matt black racing stripes and an induction bonnet, as well as a luxurious interior, stimulated sales of more than 72,000 units of this model.
Parts from the wheel hub, cross arm and suspension were used for the fine 84-ply damascus blade, hand forged by Chad Nichols in the Wavepool pattern. The ball-bearing blade with its distinctive ricasso opens smoothly with the removable push-button and cuts with confidence thanks to the powerful torque of the handle design and the security of a cleverly designed locking bolt. The finger recesses in the lightweight, high-strength aluminium handle are reminiscent of a mustang's wings, and the handle is coloured Silver Jade.
The sloping back of the handle draws nostalgic inspiration from the fastback contour of the bodywork, while the detailed pivot screw makes the propulsion of the wheels tangible. The stainless steel clip is rectilinear and angular, milled from solid, reminiscent of Ford Mustang door handles.
